A WR to Consider

Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net says West Virginia WR Stedman Bailey has the interest of several teams and the Eagles are among them.

Stedman Bailey/WR/West Virginia has been targeted by the Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Bucs and Philadelphia Eagles.  Watch Carolina considering they came away with their defensive tackle in round one.  I was also told the St Louis Rams and Houston Texans had been considering Bailey, but this was prior yesterday’s first round.”

Bailey could be a good slot receiver for the Eagles.  There is nothing dynamic about his game, but he has good hands and is a talented, productive receiver. I think of him as a 3rd round target.

Not dynamic but good hands? Sounds like a younger Avant. I could get on board with that.

I’ve watched just about every WVU game Bailey has ever played. I’ve also watched the ones where he’s been out due to injury. Big difference. I actually saw him as more of an outside guy, and a guy who’s pretty good at going up and getting the ball. Shows what I know. I’d be happy to have him either way. I would argue that I’m pretty sure he’s faster than Avant (or at least plays faster), and offers at least some RAC ability beyond Avant (which, of course, would be anything).

I would just like to see that my view of him as an outside receiver was probably coloured by the fact that he played on the same team as the diminutive Tavon Austin. That said, I would still say Bailey is a cut above Avant. I love Avant, don’t get me wrong – but I think Bailey would be more productive, ultimately, if not immediately.
