I tend to doubt this. The only QB I can see the Eagles having interest in is Geno Smith and I’m not fully convinced of that.
I do think it is possible the Eagles are leaking interest in a QB to see if one of the teams behind them is interested in moving up. The Cards (38), Jets (39), and Raiders (42) are the only teams that make some sense.
Why not Geno at 35? Do you believe that Foles is truly Chip’s guy?
The more I think about Geno, the less I like taking him. I’ll write about this in my Day 2 Preview.
Like I said a couple days ago, I think we showed interest in those 2 QBs(Geno and Manuel) to set up a 2nd round trade down.
I dont think they ever planned on taking either of those two.
I think we are going to learn a lot about this team at pick 35. If we bypass Smith (If he is there) i think that is a good indication that Kelly believes foles is the present and future. FWIW I think Ertz will be the selection.
Also remember that passing on QBs isn’t a commitment to Foles so much as a hint that we didn’t like this group and will look again next year.
good point. but I think foles would be trade bait if the team weren’t commited to him. Also I can think of five quarterbacks in next year’s off the top of my head that fit kelly’s system better than any QB is this year’s draft so that could be a reason…maybe they are looking ahead a bit.
It’s not that passing on a QB is committing to Foles, so much as it’s not giving up on him. To take a QB in the 2nd would essentially be a vote of non-confidence in Nick. Whether or not he ends up working out in Kelly’s system, unless they absolutely fall in love with one of the QBs at 35, that would seem to me to be a misuse of resources.
