UDFA RB Henry Josey

The Eagles signed RB Henry Josey from Missouri. He’s got an amazing comeback story.

Good player, too.

Eagles Check Out A Kicker

I don’t know that the Eagles will draft a PK. We’ll see who they like and how good the class of PKs is. At the least, the Eagles will aggressively go after a PK as a UDFA.

Possible UDFA DL Target

The Eagles have been getting in contact with players they think could be late rounders or UDFAs. One is Middle Tennessee State DL Jimmy Staten.

The San Diego Chargers have perhaps shown the most interest in Staten. They flew him to their team facility last month and then came to Murfreesboro for a private workout a few days later.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers also worked out Staten. The New England Patriots met with him prior to MTSU’s Pro Day and then witnessed his workout at the event. The Houston Texans, Philadelphia Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders have recently called Staten to get more background information and a contact number for the draft and ensuing free agency.

And some info on him.

Much of Staten’s anxiety and draft status hinge on what position he will play. Currently at 6-foot-4 ½ and 310 pounds, he could play defensive tackle in a 4-3 scheme. But if he is picked up by a team with a 3-4 scheme, Staten would likely bump his weight up to between 320 and 330 pounds to play nose tackle.

“I don’t mind doing that. It won’t be hard because I can gain weight and I love eating,” said Staten, a powerful weight-lifter who did 30 reps of the 225-pound bench press at Pro Day.

Eagles Fan Hoping to Get Drafted

Eagles fans will be very excited to see what the team does in the next few days. One of them has a different reason to be excited. Wisconsin RB James White grew up as an Eagles fan.

White has worked out for a handful of teams, including the Chicago Bears and the Miami Dolphins. But if you’re thinking White, who grew up as a Philadelphia Eagles fan, is pulling for one destination over another, think again. “There are no favorites anymore,” he said.

Here he is in action.

Late Round / UDFA DB of Interest

Sammy Seamster played CB and S for Middle Tennessee State. He never became a star in college, but he’s got NFL potential.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder was clocked at 4.44 seconds at MTSU’s Pro Day in March. He has been timed in the upper 4.3s in other workouts. Seamster also has an impressive broad jump (10 feet, 4 inches) and vertical jump (35 inches).

Seamster played safety, cornerback and nickelback at MTSU. Primarily as a cornerback, he posted a career-high 33 tackles, two fumble recoveries and one interception last season, and he played in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in January.

The Eagles are interested.

Seamster does not recall what his final answer was to that question or many others, but he did get positive vibes from all his visits to NFL team facilities, including the New York Giants, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs. The New England Patriots also came to see Seamster in Murfreesboro, and the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens have recently shown interest.

And you have to think Chip Kelly would like this nugget.

His character should count as a plus in his draft evaluations. MTSU’s 2013 weight-lifter of the year, Seamster never missed a single workout in his five years with the Blue Raiders, according to strength coach Jason Spray.

“Sammy was always there. Never missed a workout in his whole career. Not one,” Spray said. “He’s that guy, just an absolute gym rat.”

Spray recalls Seamster and fellow MTSU cornerback Kenneth Gilstrap spending extra time working out last summer with Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Cary Williams, who trains with Spray in the offseason.

“You’d go in there on the Fourth of July, and Sammy, Cary and Gilstrap would be in there working out,” Spray said. “Sammy just wants to be the hardest working guy there.”

Ain’t got no time for sconces.

Late Round / UDFA Receiver

The big names at LSU are Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry, but Kadron Boone is another WR getting attention from NFL teams, including the Eagles.

Ever since his campus Pro Day workout, interest has been building in LSU wide receiver Kadron Boone.

Boone has been getting calls from several NFL teams since the workout where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.44 seconds. That includes the Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks, Houston Texans, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Oakland Raiders, according to a league source.

Boone is regarded as a late-round draft target.

Boone finished his career with 44 catches for 611 yards and eight touchdowns in 51 games with 11 starts.

Last year the Eagles signed WR Russell Shepard from LSU as a UDFA. Maybe Boone will also be a target.

Why Do They Hate Us?

RB William Green was a 1st round pick that turned into a bust. He never came close to being the player the Browns thought he might. Yahoo did a nice story about how Green has turned his life around after some troubled times.

How funny is it that Yahoo chose a picture of him playing against the Eagles, a team he only faced once in his short career?

Jerks.

The anti-Eagles conspiracy continues. Except when the media is nice, but I’m sure that’s just to trick Eagles fans into letting their guard down.

Jerks.
