Good Take on Cooper

Riley Cooper is a free agent at the end of the year. Will the Eagles keep him? Sheil Kapadia had a good take on the situation.

One personnel man told Len Pasquarelli of the National Football Post that Cooper could be a “sleeper” free agent this offseason.

My take? Cooper is not someone you overpay (or even pay market value) to. There’s no denying that he’s played really well. But given Cooper’s past performance, the guess is the front office will feel they can find someone with a similar skill set elsewhere.

That’s not to say they won’t consider bringing him back. Considering this summer’s incident, is Cooper really going to want to go to a locker room with 52 strangers and try to establish credibility?

From a football perspective, is he going to find a scheme that suits him as well as this one? In other words, I think the Eagles will have some leverage if they want to bring him back. But as always, it only takes one team to make a lucrative offer, and Cooper may want to cash in.

That sums up the situation pretty well.

I think there is a good chance he returns.

Kyle Shanahan Gets the JLC Treatment

Jason LaCanfora wrote a nasty piece today on Kyle Shanahan. We don’t know who the sources were or if they had an axe to grind so the story maybe an extreme version of the situation. Still, as an Eagles fan, this is fun to read.

“Kyle is the head coach, it’s just that no one knows he is,” said one member of the organization. “He gets whatever he wants. And he has no relationship at all with (quarterback Robert Griffin II). So how could it work?”

As a former member of the organization put it: “Kyle bitches about everything, and then his father has to fix it. He bitches about the food in the cafeteria, he bitches about the field, he bitches about the equipment. He complains and then Mike takes care of it. Kyle is a big problem there. He is not well liked.”

Several members of the organization said Kyle Shanahan was a cause of internal strife, surrounding himself with young coaches with inferior experience, and allowing for no checks and balances of outside voices in the offensive coaching rooms.

And

“Kyle knows ball, but he is just so petty and he picks fights and holds grudges over small stuff,” the source said. “He’s a mountain out of a molehill guy, and he’s got entitlement syndrome. That’s why we ended up hiring all of his close friends and buddies, so no one can challenge him. But it makes you worse in the long run, because there is no accountability. Ultimately, it’s his father’s fault for pacifying his son.”

Evan Mathis: American Hero

PE.com has an excellent piece up on Evan Mathis and a recent appearance of his on the NFL Network.

“We went to your Twitter page to see what we could find,” Kriegel said, having dug up a tweet from October 18. “We found a picture of you, your wife and Selena Gomez with the caption, ‘My wives are so cute.’ So, could you explain, please?”

“There it is, looking good,” Mathis remarked with a smirk as the photo appeared on the screen. “That’s just me and two of my wives right there, just hanging out.”

“I thought that was illegal?!” Kriegel cried

“In some states it is, so I’ll just act like I’m from that state, right?” Mathis answered. “Look at me, ‘Sister Wives.’”

“How many others are there, since we’re coming clean right now?” Wyche asked.

“I’ll tell you later,” Mathis said (maybe) jokingly.

This raises the philosophical question…does PFF love Evan Mathis more than Evan Mathis loves Selena Gomez?

Consider that the modern equivalent of the Riddle of the Sphinx.

What a stud.
