Talking About Points

The Eagles have totaled 76 points over the last 2 games. Last year the team never came close to having a 2-game stretch like that. The best couple of games resulted in 56 points.

How bad was 2012?

The best 3-game stretch resulted in 78 points.

After the first 5 games of the year the Eagles had scored a total of 80 points.

Crazy…just crazy. What a difference a year makes.

Former Exec on the Skins

Louis Riddick was a Pro Personnel Director for the Eagles up until this year. He’s now a member of the media. Riddick was asked about the Skins by an ESPN writer. He wasn’t as complimentary of the offense as you might expect.

RG3 needs that [zone-read] component very much and their offense needs that. It makes them very inflexible in terms of being able to be successful on that side of the ball. If the run game is not going it has a snowball effect in a negative way because that line is not built to pass protect in a true dropback manner. RG3 is not built, and his skill set is not such, that he is a dropback passer who can play catch-up football and throw the ball all over the yard. He definitely needs the run game to be clicking and right now it is and you see how much better they are. Everything has to go right for them to score points.

Riddick had interesting comments on Orakpo and Kerrigan as well. Good read.

Which One Stands Out?

The Eagles ripped the Raiders apart a few weeks back. Just how good was that Raiders D? Take a look at the last 4 games to appreciate how special the Eagles game was.

Opponent Points Yards
KC 24 216
PIT 18 276
PHI 49 542
NYG 24 251

The Raiders are 16th in yards allowed despite giving up more than 500 yards to the Broncos and Eagles. That tells you that the Raiders are pretty darn good most of the time. They were destroyed by explosive passing attacks led by Peyton Manning and Nick Foles.

That sentence is a big odd, huh? The results aren’t.

Foles and the Eagles offense are playing at a high level right now and that looks even better every time the Raiders go out and play good defense against some other team.

Just how bad are the Eagles at home?

The Eagles lost 6 straight home games last year. That was a bad team so those losses aren’t really surprising.

The Eagles are 0-4 this year.

SD – The Eagles didn’t have CB Bradley Fletcher and Philip Rivers picked the defense apart. Close loss.

KC – The Chiefs were clearly the better team.

DAL – Nick Foles played his nightmare game.

NYG – Mike Vick and Matt Barkley were terrible.

Most of the losses have simply come to better teams. The loss to the Giants is probably the worst this season. The Eagles got poor QB play and turned the ball over.

The Skins come to town on Sunday. They aren’t a good team. This is a game the Eagles should win. This is the best chance the Eagles have to end the losing streak and start a winning one.

Greg Cosell on Brad Smith

The guys at PE.com got Greg Cosell to share his thoughts on newly signed WR/STer Brad Smith.

Cosell mentioned the Wildcat a couple of times. I don’t know that Kelly ever used that at Oregon, but he always had mobile QBs so he didn’t necessarily need it. You wonder if Kelly would mix in a Wildcat play here and there with Smith at QB.

Kelly seems to focus on Smith as a STer, which meshes with everything Kelly has said since taking over the Eagles. He wants his role players to stand out on STs.

Another Take on Foles

Sigmund Bloom is a good football writer and analyst. Here are some thoughts he shared after studying the PHI-GB game.

Great Cover

The Daily News has a great cover after yesterday’s game.

ImPACKulate Reception

Very cool pick of DeSean making his TD catch.

I’m going to assume that most of you get the joke in that title.

The Defense Does (In) Dallas

The Boys gave up 625 yards and 49 points to the Saints. They also gave up an NFL record 40 1st downs. Ouch.

About firing Rob Ryan and hiring Monte Kiffin

“We thought it was best for us to go in the direction that we are, and it doesn’t look good right now,” Jones said. “Hopefully we can make it look good, but I have all the feelings that you have when you want to look back at a decision, and I realize when some of them work you have to have a few things go along with it.

“Candidly, we’re having some of the same things that Rob had last year. Frankly, to be fair to Rob, he lost a lot of guys on defense. We lost more this year. That’s the game, though. That’s what we play. That’s the NFL.”

Is there anything better than Jerry Jones choking on humble pie?
