Chris McCoy Cut

I’d love to see the Eagles add him to the practice squad.

Jason Peters is Back

How great was it to see #71 out there at LT on Monday night?

Jason Peters was the best LT in the NFL back in 2011. He missed all of 2012 with an Achilles injury. He’s back now and anchoring the left side of the line. I thought he was a bit rusty on Monday, but expect him to be dominating defenders in no time.

Geoff Mosher wrote a good piece on him. Apparently OL coach Jeff Stoutland likes Peters just a little bit.

“He’s the real deal,” Stoutland said. “Here’s why, to me, he’s different than a lot of people. Number one, he plays with a low profile. His hips are low. For a guy his size to play with his hips as low as he does and be able to move his feet so fast.

“And when he brings his hands to you, he is violent with his hands. Absolutely violent. Defensive people take a lot of pride in talking about how violent they are with their hands. Well, this player is very violent with his hands. And when you’re violent with your hands you have a tendency to take yourself out of balance. He’s got an unbelievable sense of balance and body control, so he can do that kind of thing. That’s what makes him a special player.”

So good to have the big fella back.

Mike Vick Likes Cars

Did you know that Michael Vick has a car website?

He does.

SB Nation did a funny bit on the site.

Do yourself a favor and check out the link. You’ll love DRC’s car. That thing should get its own movie deal.

Some MNF Stats

The Eagles did some amazing things on Monday night…just in the 1st half.

By halftime, the Eagles had compiled the following statistics against theWashington Redskins:

» Ran as many offensive plays (53) asRedskins quarterback Robert Griffin III had passing yards.

» Joined the New England Patriots as the only teams with both a 100-yard rusher (LeSean McCoy, 115 yards) and a 100-yard receiver (DeSean Jackson, 104 yards) in Week 1.

» Piled up more yards (341) than 15 teams totaled in their Sunday games.

» Recorded 21 first downs, just five shy of their 2012 season high for an entire game.

Good article by Chris Wesseling. He is one of the best writers at NFL.com. Smart guy with a truly unbiased opinion. Great source of FF info.

Big Plays

The Eagles didn’t have any huge plays. There were no runs or passes of 40 or more yards. But the Eagles did have some good chunk plays. They definitely weren’t grinding out yards 3 at a time.

It will be interesting to see this offense when the 40, 50 and 60 yard plays start happening.

FishDuck on Kelly’s Win

FishDuck.com is the best Oregon site out there. Those guys do a tremendous job of covering the Ducks and remain big Chip Kelly fans.

Here is their take on the Eagles opener.

3. 4th-&-1

Power Play!

Six plays and eighty-seven seconds into the Eagles’ opening drive, they find themselves in 4th-and-1 on the Redskins’ 24 yard line.  Conventional wisdom says “Kick the field goal, put points on the board.”  Kelly went for it, and got the first down.  But he didn’t just ‘go for it,’ as NFL coaches will do from time-to-time.  It was as though the thought of kicking a 41 yard field-goal hadn’t even crossed Kelly’s mind; 19 seconds after the last play, the ball was snapped, and the Eagles had a first down.

What was so important about this decision wasn’t that Kelly chose to go for it, but that it was a real non-decision for him. This was a sure sign that Chip Kelly doesn’t have stage-fright; he’s the same gutsy playcaller he was at Oregon.

I totally agree with this point. It was important for Kelly to make that decision and just as important for him not to hesitate.
