Eagles Live Updates

From Greg Cosell:

* Doesn’t feel Geno Smith is a good fit for Chip Kelly’s offense.  Also doesn’t feel that he’s worth the #4 overall pick.  Did stress that’s just his opinion.  Said if Kelly feels Smith is a good fit and value, Eagles should take him.

From Brian Baldinger:

* Doesn’t think Nick Foles is the QB of the future and said that he doesn’t think Nick fits in Kelly’s offense.  Thinks the Eagles need to trade Foles.

* Baldy thinks pick #4 is a no-brainer…OLB Jarvis Jones.  Said “My mom could scout him.”  Said Jones is the best defensive player in the draft.  Oh boy, Captain Hyperbole strikes again.  Later did mention that doctors do need to okay Jones before he can be picked.

From Dave Spadaro:

* Said a couple of times that the Eagles are a player away from having a very good, if not dominant OL.  Doesn’t sound like much, but there was something about the way Dave said it.  Felt like more than just an observation or random comment.  I wonder if this is a hint that the Eagles are leaning toward taking an OT at #4.

I’ve watched most the Eagles Live shows over the last week, and Spuds has talked quite a bit about the OL and how he thinks Todd should be moved to RG

Given the Eagles recent history of penetration up the middle, isn’t Chance Warmack kind of a no-brainer? Sounds like he’s arguably the best, most dominating player in the draft at his position.

I would think he’s the target, and that’s why they want to trade down. But that’s just me.

Herremans is a very good OG. Even before he got hurt, he was average at best at RT. Drafting Fisher, Joeckel, or Johnson to play RT and moving Herremans back to G is upgrading two positions at once (and also secures an insurance policy/long term replacement for Peters at LT). Seems a better move than picking a guard to me if offensive line is the way they’re going to go.

I do love Jarvis Jones though. Dude makes plays.

Guards are kind of like kickers and punters. Obviously not that drastic, but in terms of overall impact on the outcome of the game and the fact that the drop off from outstanding Guard play to pretty good guard play isn’t that drastic as it is at other skills positions makes taking a Guard that high just something teams generally don’t do. EaglesRewind has been doing some stats on this and you can find pro bowl Guards later in the draft when at the same time finding all-pro tackles after round 1 is far more rare and it’s a position that has far more impact.

If they can trade out of the top 10 and still get Warmack and maybe pick up another 2nd then by all means. I just don’t think the values there at 4-10.

Todd HerrDawg had a drop-off last year before he got injured joining Peters and Kelce on IR. Watkins was still not picking up his responsibilities. Even if everyone comes back completely healthy, you have to look at the age of Peters and Herremans and think for about 3 seconds before realizing OT is a need for this team. Kelly seems like a backup to me. (Having said that, I could see them go DT in the 1st, OL in the 2nd).

I don’t think those comments about Jones are hyperbole. He’s an outstanding player. I think he was NFL-ready a year ago.

  6. Mac says:

I’ve been hell bent on getting an OT since the end of the season. The only thing that makes me waiver on this is the idea of getting a versatile stud for our Defense. Peter’s is aging and Herr-dawg just doesn’t cut it at RT for my taste. We need to start the youth movement this year. I don’t care if it’s our 1st or 2nd round pick but I’d like to see one of the top OTs land with the Eagles this year.
