Chip Speaks

Coach Chip Kelly has met with the media after the first couple of days of minicamp.

PE.com has Day 1 and Day 2 videos posted.

There is nothing groundbreaking, but there are nuggets of interest. He did talk about how the CBs cannot play press coverage and how that has made it tough to evaluate them. The Eagles want to be a press team with physical corners, but now they are just playing off coverage. That will change at Training Camp.

Kelly does get snarky with the media when they ask some generic questions.  Is your team where you want it to be? I don’t think he’s being a jerk, but the media may feel differently. They still seem to like him right now, but that won’t last forever.

One Response to Chip Speaks

Some of my personal fav’s of Chips:

    “Jonas Salk was a genius.”
“Is there a football team in Tahiti?”
“You’re sitting in air-conditioned room watchin film. That ain’t grindin”
“I really like their screen-plays” (This was one of the first things he said about coming to UO early on – it was death to my ears as former OCs from Jeff Tedford, Andy Ludwig and Gary Crowton had all used too often and in far too obvious situations. Of course Chip made it work successfully, lol.)

Reporters are going to get mad when hes vague about player status’ and how he responds to inane questions. The solution is simple, ask specific questions that require him to actively respond. If you ask him if the QB was bothered by the blitz and expect him to elaborate beyond a “yes,” (esp in a loss) you’re going to continue to be dumbfounded. If you ask him what changes they tried to make at half to alleviate the pressure and help the run game out, you’ll end up with an effective quote.
